Achievement House has a long history, but not all of it still serves us well. What began as a sheltered workshop evolved into a disability enterprise because, at the time, that was seen as fit for purpose. Today, we know it is no longer enough.
We are intentionally leaving behind models that position people in static, segregated roles. They do not reflect what people want, what communities need, or what good lives actually look like. We are on a transformation journey, from being a long-term destination to becoming a launching place.
Achievement House is shifting into a transitional space where people can explore their strengths, build skills, and move forward into supported employment, open employment, self-employment, or microenterprise in everyday workplaces and communities.
This change runs deeper than structure or contracts. We are moving from being a service, defined by what we deliver, to being of service, defined by how we show up, what we value, and how we walk alongside people. Progress matters more than permanence. Direction matters more than containment.
We believe disability is not a personal deficit. It is created by barriers. Our work is to remove those barriers, not recreate them.
If our systems are not enabling good lives, then they are disabling them, and that is something we are committed to changing.
