Volunteer Swimming Coach – Special Olympics Waikato

We’re looking for volunteer swimming coaches to join Special Olympics Waikato and support a great group of athletes both in and out of the pool.

This role is about encouraging participation, building confidence, and creating a fun, supportive environment where athletes can develop their swimming skills, work towards personal goals at their own pace, and enjoy being part of a team.

** Your coaching duties include:

  • Support weekly swim trainings and events
  • Encourage participation, confidence, and skill development
  • Help athletes work towards personal goals at their own pace
  • Create a safe, fun, and supportive environment
  • Work alongside other volunteers, families, and club members

Volunteers play a huge part in creating opportunities for athletes to stay active, connect with others, and enjoy being part of a team.

Requirements:

  • A positive, patient, and encouraging attitude
  • Interest in swimming and community sport
  • Reliability and good communication skills
  • Ability to support and connect with athletes at different skill levels
  • Previous coaching, swimming, or teaching experience is helpful but not essential
  • Willingness to complete volunteer onboarding or training if required

A Police background check is required for this role.

Time commitment:

  • Weekly training sessions on Sundays, 5pm–6.15pm at Waterworld, Te Rapa
  • Occasional competitions throughout the year (details to be discussed with volunteers)
