Training Workshop : Reimagining Volunteer Roles
What if we did things differently?
Date:TBC
Many organisations say, “We need more volunteers.”
But often, the real challenge isn’t the number of volunteers — it’s the way volunteer roles are designed.
This practical session builds on Workshop 1: Rethinking volunteering and challenges organisations to look beyond the traditional, one-size-fits all roles and reimagine what volunteer roles could look like if they were designed for today’s people, lifestyles, and motivations. (N.B: You do not have to have attended Workshop 1 to attend this workshop).
In this session, participants will explore:
- How to design volunteer roles differently, with flexibility and accessibility in mind
- The value of niche, task-based, and project roles that reflect diverse skills and availability
- How to think more broadly about what volunteers could be doing – not just what they’ve always done
- Building a sustainable pipeline of volunteers through intentional role design and succession planning
- Creating roles that meet the needs of new and emerging volunteer demographics and motivations
Participants will leave with practical tools, examples, and ideas to redesign existing roles, create new opportunities, and strengthen their volunteer programme for the future.
