Become a GirlGuiding Leader – Matamata
GirlGuiding empowers young people to build confidence, leadership, and life skills through adventure, learning, and fun.

Looking for something rewarding, social, and a little different from the usual? GirlGuiding NZ is looking for volunteers aged 18+ to help create supportive spaces where girls and young people can grow, make friends, and try new things.

As a volunteer leader, you’ll be part of a welcoming team helping to:

  • Run weekly meetings and activities
  • Support outdoor adventures, camps, and community projects
  • Encourage young people to build confidence and step outside their comfort zone
  • Create a fun, inclusive, and supportive environment
  • Work alongside other volunteers and build positive community connections

You don’t need previous experience working with children or youth — just a positive attitude, reliability, and willingness to get involved. GirlGuiding is a supportive environment where you can learn as you go, meet like-minded people, and build confidence along the way.

Volunteers receive:

  • Free training, including First Aid and outdoor skills
  • Leadership development opportunities
  • The chance to make genuine friendships and connections
  • Practical experience working with young people
  • Partner discounts and volunteer benefits

GirlGuiding NZ includes:

  • Pippins (5–6 years)
  • Brownies (7–9.5 years)
  • Guides (9.5–12.5 years)
  • Rangers (12.5–17 years)

When you apply, we’ll chat about which section best suits your interests, personality, and availability.

Volunteers must be 18 years or older. There is no cost to volunteer, and having a driver’s licence is helpful but not essential.

Requirements:

  • You don’t need any previous experience — we’ll support you as you learn
  • Free training is provided as part of the programme, so you’ll be fully prepared before you start
  • You’ll have access to ongoing First Aid and outdoor skills training throughout the year
  • You just need to be 18 years or older to volunteer
  • A full driver’s licence and access to a vehicle is helpful for some activities, but not essential
  • If you’re unsure whether it’s a fit, we’re happy to talk through options with you

A Police background check is required for this role.

Time commitment:

  • Around 2–3 hours per week during school terms to help plan and run activities
  • Occasional additional time (around 2–4 hours) for preparation or supporting weekend camps
  • Flexible volunteering that fits around study, work, or other commitments
  • Mostly term-time involvement, with occasional events outside regular sessions

Getting started:

The first step is to express your interest by filling out the form below. We will then put you in touch directly with the organisation for more information on the role and how to proceed.
