This role is based at Kaainga Taupua, a supported accommodation facility operated by Ara Poutama Aotearoa. While connected to Spring Hill Corrections Facility, the facility is outside the prison wire and is community-facing. We provide a safe, structured environment, volunteers are always accompanied and supported by staff, and detailed safety planning are in place prior to any engagement. This facility supports residents as they build stability, maintain wellbeing routines, and work toward greater independence.
About the Role
We are seeking a compassionate and reliable volunteer to provide ongoing wellbeing support to one resident at Kaainga Taupua. This mentoring role focuses on building a positive, trusting relationship through supportive engagement. The resident benefits from consistent encouragement as they maintain healthy routines, develop confidence, and work toward greater independence.
What You Will Do
- Provide one-on-one engagement and supportive check-ins
- Offer gentle reminders and supportive conversation around taking prescribed medication (Volunteers do not administer or handle medication.)
- Encourage healthy daily habits, including good nutrition, physical activity, meaningful routine, and positive social interaction
- Support the resident to identify realistic goals and celebrate progress
- Model respectful communication and provide non-judgmental support
- Share relevant observations with staff to support continuity of care

- Volunteers do not administer medication, provide counselling, or make treatment decisions.
- All engagement occurs within agreed wellbeing boundaries and under staff oversight.
