Volunteer Helper – Morning Programme for Seniors – Cambridge

Cambridge

This is a lovely, small volunteering opportunity supporting a programme for older people who are living independently. The focus is on offering friendship, connection, and support to those aged 65 and over.

The programme runs on Monday mornings from 10:00am to midday. Each session includes gentle exercise, time to connect over a delicious morning tea, and a shared activity.

As a volunteer, you’ll help set up the room from 9:30am, assist with preparing and serving morning tea, and spend time chatting and engaging with attendees to help create a warm, welcoming atmosphere. You’ll also support the group during activities where needed and help tidy up at the end of the session.

There are around 25 attendees, supported by a friendly team of 4–5 volunteers.

Requirements:

  • Willing to undergo a police vetting process and meet the required standards
  • Friendly, approachable, and empathetic, with a genuine interest in supporting older people
  • Comfortable chatting and engaging with attendees, many of whom have mobility or eyesight challenges and enjoy social interaction
  • Able to follow basic kitchen hygiene practices and present yourself in a clean and tidy manner
  • Dependable and able to arrive on time for each session
  • Able to travel to and from the programme independently (held at a central Cambridge location)

A Police background check is required for this role.

Time commitment:

  • Monday mornings, 9:30 am – 12:00 pm
  • If more than one volunteer applies, the role can be flexible to suit the Mondays you’re available
