About the Programme
WanderSearch supports people who are at risk of going missing due to dementia, neurodivergence, or disability. Participants wear a small radio-frequency device that helps trained Land Search and Rescue Volunteers and Police locate them more quickly if needed.

Volunteers play an essential role in ensuring these devices are safely delivered, maintained, and regularly updated.

Role Purpose
As a Client Support Volunteer, you will support the WanderSearch programme by delivering, collecting, and maintaining devices for clients in your local area.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver and collect WanderSearch devices from clients
  • Complete scheduled six-monthly device swaps
  • Ensure devices are correctly issued, returned, and recorded
  • Provide friendly, respectful contact with clients and whānau during visits

Support Provided

  • Full training provided before starting
  • Ongoing support from programme coordinators
  • Clear processes and guidance for all tasks

Requirements:

  • NZ Police Vetting is required
  • No previous experience or high fitness levels needed
  • Reliable, trustworthy, and able to follow processes accurately
  • Flexible and able to respond to tasks within your local area
  • Access to a phone for communication
  • A full New Zealand driver licence and reliable transport to deliver equipment when needed
  • Volunteer travel costs will be reimbursed

A Police background check is required for this role.

Time commitment:

  • Regular ongoing commitment (more than 6 months)
  • Tasks are assigned within an agreed local area
  • Volunteers are rostered based on availability and service demand
  • Work is carried out during daytime and early evening hours only
  • Roles are shared across volunteers to provide flexibility and cover
  • Full training and ongoing support provided
