English Conversation Volunteer – Home Based

All Towns, Home Based

Help English Learners Gain Confidence!
We’re looking for volunteers to help new English speakers overcome the anxiety of speaking English. Many of our new English speakers feel embarrassed or shy when trying to communicate in English, often worrying about using the wrong words or speaking too slowly. But with your help, they can gain the confidence they need!

What We Do

  • 10 Minute English was created by an English teacher who noticed some of her students lacked confidence when speaking English.
  • The platform gives English learners the chance to practise speaking with confident English speakers in a relaxed and supportive setting.
  • Volunteers have casual conversations with English learners, giving them the opportunity to practise their English and build confidence.
  • You don’t need to be a teacher – we’re looking for everyday people who enjoy talking to others and want to help.

How It Works

  • English learners book a 10-minute video conversation with a volunteer.
  • Short conversations give learners a simple way to practise speaking English regularly.
  • Volunteers help learners feel more comfortable and confident using English in everyday situations.
  • Learners pay a small fee to use the service. This helps cover the cost of running the platform and provides a revenue stream to support the Rural
    Youth and Adult Literacy Trust.
  • Refugees and immigrants on low incomes can access the service for free.
