When an emergency occurs, CDEM may activate an Emergency Coordination Centre (ECC) or local Emergency Operations Centre (EOC) to coordinate the response. As a CDEM-trained volunteer, you will support the teams working within these centres. This is an office-based role – you will not be responding on the ground.
Depending on the needs of the response, tasks may include:
• Managing and responding to emails and communicating requests.
• Data entry and maintaining records.
• Gathering information and writing reports.
• Rostering and coordinating staff.
• Providing IT support.
Emergencies can happen any time (and be few and far between) so it is important to be ready and prepared. You will receive training in how to work within a response office environment, giving you the knowledge and skills to support CDEM Function Managers during an emergency response.
NOTE: Most training and events will happen at our Hamilton office location.
What we can offer you:
• A large selection of ongoing training opportunities and exercises.
• Emergency Management experience and skills.
• Rare opportunities to deploy to other areas of the country during an emergency event.
• Various interesting events and relationship building opportunities.
• The opportunity to train and progress into managing one of the functions within our coordination centre.
• A chance to be part of something important and helping your community during a time of emergency.
