Coffee Buddy – Ohaupo

Hamilton, Ōhaupō

Mrs H is in her early 50s, and is a mum to two sons. She has limited mobility due to a health condition and uses a wheelchair to get around. She currently lives in a rest home and gets very lonely as many of the other residents have dementia and are unable to have a conversation with her. She would love to make a friend who shares similar interests (teenagers, gardening, baking) and maybe go out for coffee sometimes. Her ideal volunteer is middle-aged, friendly, and outgoing.

Key Tasks and responsibilities of position:

  • Conversation & companionship with Mrs H.
  • Possibly pushing Mrs H short distances in manual wheelchair from time to time.

Other possible support you could offer may include;

  • Going out for coffee once trust developed.

Requirements:

  • Bring a positive, encouraging energy that helps others feel motivated and supported
  • Someone others can count on—reliable, trustworthy, and consistent
  • Have a kind heart and a patient nature—especially when things take a little extra time
  • Communicate clearly and with warmth
  • Are physically able to lend a hand when needed—like helping push a manual wheelchair from time to time
  • Are open to learning and comfortable taking a bit of direction when needed
  • Understand healthy boundaries and know how to support someone while still respecting their space and independence

A Police background check is required for this role.
