A Little Time Can Make a Big Difference
Many older people in Hamilton spend much of their time alone. Life changes like retirement, losing a partner, or health challenges can make it harder to get out and see people. This can leave them feeling isolated and lonely, even in a busy city.
As a Visitor Volunteer, you can make a real difference. You’ll spend time with someone who would love some company, helping them feel connected, valued, and supported. It’s not about fixing problems—just being there to listen, chat, share a laugh, or enjoy a hobby together can brighten someone’s day.
How you can spend time as a volunteer
- Chat over a cuppa about sports, gardening, music, books, or whatever sparks a good conversation
- Do activities together like crosswords, card games, crafts, or tinkering in the shed
- Get out and about to grab a coffee, take a stroll, or check out a local event
- Share stories and laughs because a little company can mean the world to someone
Volunteering usually takes a couple of hours each week or fortnight, and full training and support are provided. It’s an easy way to give back, make real connections, and brighten someone’s day. Male and female volunteers are welcome to join us.
