Behind-the-Scenes Museum Volunteer – Putaruru

As a volunteer, you’ll become the go-to person for one of our exhibition areas, working alongside our site team to keep it looking its best. You’ll help care for our collections and make sure visitors have a welcoming, engaging experience.

Your tasks will be:

  • Caring for artifacts – gently dusting and cleaning items using approved museum methods to help preserve them for future generations
  • Keeping the space inviting – tidying floors and surfaces so the exhibition feels immersive and welcoming
  • Watching out for pests – spotting and reporting any signs to protect our collections
  • Sharing the story – making sure the story of your exhibition area is clear, engaging, and enjoyable for visitors

Requirements:

  • Has a keen eye for detail and a gentle touch with historic objects
  • Is happy to help out in an outdoor museum environment
  • Can manage light physical activity, including bending and reaching inside historic buildings
  • Brings a friendly, “can-do” attitude and enjoys being part of a small, welcoming team

Time commitment:

  • A minimum of one shift (around 1–3 hours) every 2 to 4 weeks
  • Shifts available weekdays and weekends, between 9:00 am and 3:00 pm
