At Waikato Equitherapy, we create life-changing experiences every week. Children and adults with special needs come to interact with our therapy horses, gaining confidence, joy, and independence. Behind every smile is a dedicated team of staff and volunteers making it all possible.
Our Centre isn’t just for riders, it’s a place of belonging for volunteers, work experience students, and holiday program participants. Every interaction strengthens our supportive, connected community. As a Horse Care & Riding Assistant, you’ll play a key role in keeping the horses happy, healthy, and ready to help our riders thrive.
About the Role
We’re looking for a caring and reliable volunteer to assist with horse care and riding sessions. This role is perfect for anyone who loves being around horses and wants to contribute to a positive, safe environment for riders of all abilities.
You’ll often work alongside other volunteers and staff, and full onsite training is provided, so no prior experience is required, just enthusiasm and a willingness to learn.
What You’ll Do
- Walk to paddocks to collect and turn out horses for lessons
- Groom and prepare horses to a high standard for riders
- Assist during riding sessions to ensure a safe, enjoyable experience for riders and horses
- Support the team with general horse care and lesson preparation
Why Your Contribution Matters
Every task you do helps create a safe, welcoming environment where riders can grow in confidence and independence. By volunteering with Waikato Equitherapy, you’re supporting:
- Rider progress: Physical, emotional, and social development through horse interaction
- Volunteer and community growth: Being part of a supportive, caring team
When you volunteer as a Horse Care & Riding Assistant, you’re not just caring for horses, you’re helping change lives, one lesson at a time.
