As a Horse Care & Riding Assistant, you’ll play a key role in keeping the horses happy, healthy, and ready to help our riders thrive.

About the Role
We’re looking for a caring and reliable volunteer to assist with horse care and riding sessions. This role is perfect for anyone who loves being around horses and wants to contribute to a positive, safe environment for riders of all abilities.

You’ll often work alongside other volunteers and staff, and full onsite training is provided, so no prior experience is required, just enthusiasm and a willingness to learn.

What You’ll Do

  • Walk to paddocks to collect and turn out horses for lessons
  • Groom and prepare horses to a high standard for riders
  • Assist during riding sessions to ensure a safe, enjoyable experience for riders and horses
  • Support the team with general horse care and lesson preparation

Requirements:

You don’t need prior horse experience, full training is provided. We’re looking for volunteers who are

  • Physically able to groom horses to a high standard
  • Reliable, trustworthy, and punctual with strong communication skills
  • Patient, friendly, and able to build rapport with both horses and riders
  • Comfortable working around horses in a therapeutic environment
  • Willing to follow guidance and safety protocols
  • Friendly and team-oriented, able to collaborate with staff and other volunteers

A Police background check is required for this role.

Time commitment:

  • Volunteers typically commit to approximately 2 hours per session. (Helping collect horses from the paddocks, groom them, and prepare them for rides.)

The Centre operates during school term time on the following days:

  • Wednesday: 8:30 AM – 3:00–4:00 PM
  • Thursday: 8:30 AM – 3:00–4:00 PM
  • Friday: 11:00 AM – 4:30 PM
  • Saturday: 8:30 AM – 3:00–4:00 PM
  • Sunday: 9:00 AM – 3:00–4:00 PM
