About Us
Waikato Equitherapy provides horse riding and interaction opportunities for children and adults with special needs across Hamilton and the wider Waikato. With a passionate team of volunteers, committed staff, and a herd of amazing therapy horses, we create a safe, supportive, and uplifting environment where everyone can thrive.
Why We Do What We Do
Each week, riders gain confidence, joy, and a sense of achievement through their sessions. Volunteers, work-experience participants, and holiday program attendees also feel a strong sense of belonging and connection. The Centre is more than a place to ride, it’s a vibrant, caring community where everyone can flourish.
About the Role
- As a Horse Walking & Rider Support Volunteer, you’ll play a vital role in helping riders enjoy their sessions safely and confidently.
- You will walk alongside a horse and rider for approximately 40 minutes per session
- Provide balance and support to help riders complete activities
- Offer encouragement and reassurance, fostering confidence and independence
- Be part of the supportive team that helps every session run smoothly
This hands-on, interactive role is perfect for anyone who enjoys being outdoors, working with horses, and supporting people to achieve their best.
Why It Matters
Your support helps riders gain confidence, independence, and joy, while also strengthening the Centre’s sense of community. Walking alongside our horses and riders, you play a direct role in creating life-changing experiences and ensuring every participant feels safe, supported, and included.
