About You
As our Kitchen & Volunteer Coordinator, you’ll help keep the heart of The Cake Detective running smoothly. This hands-on volunteer role ensures our kitchen remains clean, organised, well-stocked, and welcoming for our incredible team of volunteer cake decorators. You’ll play an important part behind the scenes by managing supplies, maintaining kitchen standards, supporting volunteers, and helping distribute surplus cake offcuts to community organisations. Your work will directly contribute to creating moments of joy for local children and whānau.

In this role, you will:

  • ensure the kitchen remains clean, organised, safe, and functional for volunteers
  • maintain workspaces, organise cupboards and storage areas
  • follow our cleaning schedule, including deep-clean tasks
  • you will monitor and replenish baking and cleaning supplies before they run out
  • maintain a simple stock and reorder list, coordinate stock collection and purchasing as required
  • ensure essential items such as cake bases, baking ingredients, packaging, cleaning products, and kitchen consumables are always available
  • help reduce food waste and support the community by delivering surplus cake offcuts to local partners including Go Eco and Annie’s Corner
  • wash and maintain volunteer aprons

Requirements:

We are seeking someone who is organised, proactive, and able to identify tasks that need attention without needing direction. You'll enjoy creating tidy, efficient systems and workspaces and take pride in maintaining an environment that helps others succeed. As the role involves collecting stock and delivering cake offcuts, you will need a full driver's licence and access to reliable transport.

The ideal volunteer will be a friendly and confident communicator who enjoys working with people and supporting others. You'll have a genuine passion for helping children and families in our community and be enthusiastic about contributing to The Cake Detective's kaupapa and values. While much of the role can be completed independently, you'll also enjoy being part of a positive team culture and working collaboratively with our volunteers to create moments of joy for local children and whānau.

Time commitment:

  • Approximately 1–2 hours per week.
  • Flexible scheduling
  • Some flexibility may be required when collecting stock or completing deliveries.
