This is a wonderful opportunity to use your skills, gain experience, build confidence, and spend time chatting with older people in a friendly community setting.

A fresh haircut can boost confidence, dignity, and wellbeing.

By volunteering with Abbeyfield, you’ll help residents feel connected to their community while sharing your skills in a meaningful and rewarding way.

Your Tasks as a Volunteer Hairdresser

  • Provide basic haircuts for Abbeyfield residents
  • Spend time chatting and building connections with residents
  • Help residents feel confident and well-presented
  • Work with the Abbeyfield staff to organise suitable haircut times

Requirements:

  • Basic hairdressing skills or training
  • Friendly and respectful communication skills
  • Comfortable working with older people
  • Reliable and able to commit to occasional visits
  • A caring and patient and discrete approach
  • High standard of personal presentation

Time commitment:

  • Approximately 2 hours every 5–6 weeks
  • Weekday visits preferred
  • Times can be arranged to fit the volunteer's availability
  • Ongoing involvement preferred but flexibility is available
