Looking for a way to volunteer without making a long-term commitment?
Citizens Advice Bureau Te Awamutu is looking for friendly, approachable volunteers to help people in our community get ready for the 2026 General Election.

You’ll help people access clear, trusted and impartial voting information. This could mean helping someone check their enrolment, find out where and when they can vote, answering questions or simply pointing them towards the right information.

You could volunteer at CAB’s Voting Information Hub or get out into the community at local outreach events. No previous electoral or volunteering experience is required — you’ll be provided with the information and support you need.

This is a great opportunity to meet people, get involved in your local community and make a practical difference, all within a defined short-term commitment.

Requirements:

  • Friendly, approachable and comfortable talking with people.
  • Good communication and listening skills.
  • Comfortable engaging with people from a range of backgrounds.
  • Able to provide information in a neutral and impartial way.
  • Willing to declare any potential conflicts of interest.
  • Comfortable standing and working outdoors when supporting community events.
  • No previous electoral or volunteering experience required. Training provided.
  • A Ministry of Justice background check is required for all CAB volunteer roles.

Time commitment:

  • Project dates: 17 August – 25 October 2026.
  • CAB Voting Information Hub: At least one 4-hour shift per week.
  • Hub hours: Monday–Friday, 10am–2pm.
  • Community outreach: Alternatively, support one or more community outreach events during the project.
  • Some outreach events may take place at weekends.
